What Flame-Resistant Workwear Actually Does

Standard clothing catches fire and keeps burning. Flame-resistant workwear is engineered to stop that from happening—giving a worker the critical seconds they need to get clear of danger. This is not just a product feature. In many industries it is a legal requirement.

Four things FR workwear does that standard clothing cannot

– Self-extinguishing — when the ignition source is removed, FR fabric stops burning. Standard polyester continues to burn and melts directly onto skin.

– Built-in protection — inherent FR fabrics like Nomex® and Kevlar® have flame resistance woven into the fibre itself. It cannot wash out or wear off over time.

– Regulatory compliance — oil & gas, petrochemical, and electrical utility sectors legally require certified FR clothing on site. Non-compliance carries serious liability for employers.

– Long-term value — inherent FR garments last longer than treated alternatives because the protection does not degrade with washing. Fewer replacement cycles over the garment’s working life.

Inherent FR vs Treated FR—Not the Same Thing

When you source FR workwear, there are two fundamentally different types of fabric. Most buyers do not realise the difference until it causes a problem. Here is what separates them.

Inherent FR—Protection built into the fiber

✔ Flame resistance is permanent—it cannot wash out
✔ Safe for high-risk, continuous-exposure environments
✔ Maintains full protection for the entire garment life
✔ Used in oil & gas, petrochemical, and electrical utilities
✔ Qualifies for the highest EN ISO 11612 performance levels
✔ Nomex® and Kevlar® are the benchmark inherent FR fibres

Bengal Apparel BD specialises in inherent FR manufacturing using certified Nomex® and Kevlar® blends.

Treated FR—Standard fabric with a chemical finish

✘ Protection degrades with repeated washing
✘ Has a finite number of wash cycles before retesting is required
✘ Not suitable for prolonged high-risk environments
✔ Lower upfront cost per garment
✔ Acceptable for lower-risk, intermittent-exposure tasks
✘ Protection level after extended use cannot be independently verified

Treated FR can meet EN ISO 11612 when new—but protection is not guaranteed across the garment’s full working life.

From Enquiry to Delivery—How We Work

You deal with one contact at Bengal Apparel BD. We manage everything behind it—factory communication, quality checks, documentation, and shipping coordination. No chasing multiple suppliers. No lost information between parties.

1. Enquiry—share your product specs, target volume, and certification requirements. We respond within one business day with initial pricing and any follow-up questions.

2. Sampling—we produce a physical sample to your specification. You review fit, fabric, and finish before any production commitment is made.

3. Production—bulk manufacturing begins after sample approval. In-line quality checks happen at every stage, not just at the end.

4. Inspection — final AQL inspection before goods leave the factory. Third-party inspection is available and fully supported on request.

5. Export—full shipping documentation provided. We supply to the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and Australia.

Industries We Supply

Our FR garments are used across industries where exposure to heat, flame, or electrical arc is a real and regular risk—not a rare edge case.

– Oil and gas — upstream, midstream, and downstream operations
– Petrochemical and refinery
– Electrical utilities and power generation
– Construction and civil infrastructure
– Industrial maintenance and engineering services
– Rail and public transport infrastructure

We supply importers, distributors, private-label brands, and corporate uniform buyers. We do not have a retail minimum—our model is built for B2B volume programs. Whether you are placing a test order or running an annual supply contract, the process is the same.

Common Questions from Buyers

What is the difference between inherent FR and treated FR workwear?

Inherently FR fabrics are made from fibers that are naturally flame-resistant—the protection is built into the material and cannot wash out. Treated FR fabrics start as standard cloth coated with a chemical finish. Over time and with repeated washing, that finish degrades and protection weakens. For high-risk environments such as oil and gas, inherent FR is the safer long-term choice.

What certifications does your flame-resistant workwear carry?

Our FR workwear is produced to EN ISO 11612 (protection against heat and flame) and EN 1149-5 (antistatic properties). Factory compliance includes WRAP, BSCI, SEDEX, and OEKO-TEX. Certification documents and test reports are available on request.

What is the minimum order quantity for FR workwear?

MOQ starts from 1,200 pieces per style and color for standard FR programs. For new customers placing test orders, we can discuss flexible minimums. Contact us with your volume, and we will advise what is possible.

Can you produce private-label FR workwear?

Yes. We produce fully private-labelled FR garments including custom woven labels, hangtags, and branded packaging. Your brand on the garment, our production behind it. We do not put Bengal Apparel BD branding on your product.

How long does it take from order to delivery?

Sampling typically takes 2 to 3 weeks. Bulk production runs approximately 45 to 75 days from sample approval, depending on order volume and fabric availability. Every quote we send includes a specific production timeline so you can plan accordingly.

Do you supply FR workwear to the Middle East?

Yes. We actively supply buyers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, and Kuwait—particularly for oil and gas sector programs. Garments are exported with full documentation suitable for import into GCC countries.
